STRING - AND PERCUSSION - HOSANNA!

Welcome to what I hope you will find an interesting, useful - and fun - site.

The purpose of the site is to help schools provide opportunities for young instrumentalists - percussion players, recorder players, violinists and viola players - to join in regular school assemblies.  (Carolling Along and Celebration String Hosanna! do the same for festivals.)

The twenty six songs are a personal choice and use pieces from a selection of publications:

  • Alleluya!
  • Come and Praise
  • Harlequin
  • Morning Has Broken
  • Okki-tokki-unga
  • Someone's Singing Lord
  • Tinder-box

All the violin/recorder, viola and percussion parts can be printed out, and most of the music can be listened to on-line. (There is a separate technical comments page.) The string and percussion parts can be listened to separately, and even individual parts picked out.

To get started straight away, go direct to the Music page.

The Full List page shows the songs in alphabetical order and possible source publications.

The Resource List is useful if you wish to see which songs from Come and Praise, say, are included.

It may also be convenient to search by instruments, since the level of difficulty obviously varies from piece to piece. Separate percussion and string comment pages focus on this aspect.  In nearly every case, the melody line is equally suitable for recorder, violin, flute etc.
