Home Introduction List of Carols Viewing the Music Comments

This collection was compiled to provide young instrumentalists in Staffordshire schools with the opportunity to join in class and school assemblies, and provides instrumental melody booklets for violin/recorder, viola, cello, flute, B flat clarinet, trumpet and E flat saxophone. A simple percussion score is also included.

The selection was made from five books, "Carol, gaily carol" (Black), "Merrily to Bethlehem" (Black), "Christmas Tinderbox" (Black), Oxford Book of Carols (OUP) and "Folk Carols for Young Children" (Ward Lock) - for details of sources see the List of Carols page.

Later, in response to many requests, a piano accompaniment book was also published, with new accompaniments by me to the twenty one carols, and also an accompanying audio cassette (the basis of this present version).

( ........ here, one paragraph deleted, June 2020 ... information long out of date!!)

This revised web version provides all the above in a clear and accessible format, with all pages quickly accessed and easily printed out.  There are separate booklets in PDF format for the seven instrumental melody parts, the piano accompaniment and the simple accompanying percussion parts, which can also be listened to, simply by clicking on an instrument's name.  To go to these pages, click on "Viewing the Music" above.

The only difference between this and the CD-rom version is that  the sound files here are midi files so that they will work for those of you still with a slow internet connection.

As well as the percussion sound files, the percussion booklet also includes full performances of all twenty one carols.  To listen to the music you must of course have a media player installed.
